Pedestal & Screen

December 20, 2008 by Team 7

Hey guys,

Great News yeah! Instead of building the pedestal from scratch, I found a 2nd hand shelf that we can use. We just have to then cut the holes and paint.

Plus we don’t need to use the screen from laptop. There is a constraint with using the laptop because of the space the keyboard will take. Such that it pushes the display screen all the way to the back of the pedestal. Which means radio will be way back.

SOooo…I found a LG Flatron Monitor lying around in my house. We can use that. We don’t need to have a slit on the pedestal. We just build a radio over that LG Monitor, Jon’s Speaker & the Teabox.

Over here at ((The Transmission)) we sure know how to enjoy ourselves and make our talents happy (: At least, we hope that they all are:

- Adien
- Poh Hong
- Yazid
- Shawn
- Leanna
- Joel
- Fayth
- Caitlin

Thank you all once again for letting us take up your precious time for something as crazy (and to a certain extend boring) as this! We really appreciate all the help we got.

Thank you also Melvin and Huiyan for helping us pack and carry some of our equipment.

More pictures to arrive shortly. That’s all.

Radio User Interface

December 10, 2008 by Team 7

Had a short meet with Damien yesterday. Discussed about the programming to control the interactive control by the audience.

Couple of good points brought up by him:

- When does the video start? How can we make it impactful, and getting the audience ready that they r gonna watch something? Countdown video?

- Why would someone want to switch between stories? Think about Visual Feedback from the radio dial.

We also discussed a possible way of instigating curiousity from the audience to move the “knob”.

I’ve implemented a basic setup of the discussed idea with placeholder images that has the rough details. All this would work with the Axiom that we have or even the teabox, as long as we can send midi data through to Max.

Do note that crossfading is no longer considered. It would be less complex and asethetically coincide with our video art style if we had them jumping from video to video as they scroll through the “frequency” of each story with static as a connector during tuning.

For the radio dial interface, I’m looking at a couple of pictures of old school radio to think about how we can capture the essense of the radio dial and fuse that with our user interface design.

INSTALLATION:
- Building the radio chasis over a laptop and tea box which will be stacked up with materials holding the other equipment for projection in 3 segments below it.

NOTE:
We have to test the projectors and its angle before designing the pedestal.
Think of other alternatives..42″ Portable TV?

Meeting Minutes #24
November 10, 2008 – Monday
Republic Polytechnic, “Jacuzzi”/TRCC pantry/Outside TRCC
5:30pm – 10:00pm
Yasmin, Prada, Louis & Jonathan

- – -

Issues Discussed:

1.Update on contents of Blacks and Golds
- Blacks yet to finalise categories
- Golds yet to finalise cover clock + exact contents (cycle? timeline? grid?)

2. Justified the use of knob
- Story may flow in a particular order we planned but doesn’t matter in what order audience sees it – entirely up to them
- So if knob isn’t touched (radio channel doesn’t change) story Section 1/2/3/4 will keep looping

3. Video demos
- Using the cameras on our mobile phones to try out camera angles and alternative filming techniques
- DJ scene, routine scene from A and B’s perspectives, running scene

- – -

PRADA’S NOTES

Radio
- 4 channels each representing each story
- A display screen with columns divided into 4 sections, each different colour (4 different music pieces)
- Knob zones – green to red?

Video
- running – done test shots
- Book shot seperately – with lighting
- Heroes sylar shot? haha
- Syncing the first couple of flipping page?

- – -

To Do This Week:
- Purchase Props at VivoCity
- Settle categories and B’s book outline
- Settle what happens when A meets B

Meeting Minutes #23

November 3, 2008 – Monday
Republic Polytechnic, Level 1.5 (Jacuzzi)
Yasmin, Prada, Louis & Jonathan
Louis brought up his observations of Punggol MRT route and the LRT. One of the possible locations for the shoot.
7 min ride per loop of the LRT. Punggol MRT has a long escalator. A part of Punggol has a side that faces the west where the sun sets.
Discussed the 4 different stories and it’s start and end. The last story needs a “spectacular” ending. Something that is impactful because A was present.
Looked at pink tentacles which had a nice video sequence that matched a lot of our ideas. Routine and trains and style of our “story”.
- – -
Questions brought up
Should we shoot in an actual train? Or can we do a simluation in a room with a screen running the background movement of the environment in a train?
What kinda set, lighting?
Should we consider cable car?
Should it just be 2 persons or more people?
- – - -
TO -DO:
- story sequence chart
- audio composition drafts
- storyboard(video clips)
